Abstract

The article presents the results of a comprehensive study on radon-rich mineral waters from the Dzhety- Oguz area, located in the southeastern part of the Issyk-Kul intermountain artesian basin (Northern Tien Shan). Using new data on the chemical and isotopic composition (δ18O and δD) of natural waters (lakes, rivers, minerals), as well as the chemical composition of host rocks, scientists have identified three main genetic types of mineral water: highly mineralized (up to 12.8 g/L) chloride sodium-calcium thermal mineral waters (with temperatures up to 32 °С), circulating in carbonate deposits from the Middle Carboniferous period and forming at depths of up to 3 kilometers, with a reservoir temperature of about 105 °С; chloride-sulfate sodium-calcium water with a mineralization of around 0.5 g/L and a temperature of 22 °С, formed in alluvial deposits in areas of active water exchange; weakly mineralized (1.8 g/L) waters of mixed composition, formed as a result of the mixing of deep fluids with infiltration waters. Isotope studies confirmed the meteoric origin of all the studied waters, including highly mineralized thermal waters. It was established that the diversity in chemical composition is due to processes such as mixing of highly mineralized deep-seated fluid with low-mineralized infiltration water, intensive interactions in the water-rock system.
